In this series of blog posts we are introducing people who are speaking at and attending Inspire 2013. We are delighted to introduce Leeann Marie, owner of Leeann Marie Photography in Pittsburgh, PA. Leeann will be teaching a class on "Workflow in Your Business."

You're a photographer, but are you a business person? Have you ever sat and thought about that seriously.. like, really seriously?

The choices you make on a daily basis have a huge impact on your businesses successes and failures! As small-business owners, we are in charge of our destiny, and our most valuable resource is (you guessed it) TIME!

What's the best way to use your time wisely? Set up systems and methods that allow you to get more done, remain efficient, and produce great work with reduced effort. Everything - from emailing to editing to shooting - is a process in your business, and every process inherently contains waste. There's no getting around it - whether you are wasting time, money, or energy, there is always room for improvement!

Not sure where to start? Pick the process you hate the most! Is it editing? Emailing? Writing up contracts? Next, write down (yes, hand-write it!) all of the steps you do in order to complete that process. As you write, start to think of areas that you know you could improve. Perhaps you realize that you tend to write the same emails over and over again. Perhaps you fall into an even deeper hate/hate relationship with color correction. When you see these areas - circle them!

You now have a starting point. The single best use of your time when updating and improving your systems will be knowing where to start. With these noticeable areas for improvement you can focus on the techniques or products that will make your life easier - and weed out the rest of the noise.

In my presentation at INSPIRE, I will focus on how systems can be improved, share the 7 common areas of waste in photographer businesses, and give some REAL LIFE examples and suggestions on how to make your life as a small-business owner and photographer easier!
