Inspire Speaker: Jim Minics

In this series of blog posts we are introducing the faculty at Inspire 2015. Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Minics who will be leading a session called Profiting from your Personal Style Jim Minics

I am probably the most random person you will ever meet, at least that is what my wife tells me.  My motto is, I am never serious, even if I say to you "no I'm serious" I'm probably not.

I am an animal lover with a Facebook page covered with animals who need rescue.  I have been a photographer for over 20 years and self employed since I was 19!  I have never been one to hold a full time job, the longest one I ever had lasted an entire year!  I love working, just not for others. When I need an escape I usually dive into music or carpentry.

For years I have been a professional musician along with being a photographer.  Whether it was as a session player or touring with the band based in NYC (The Love Kills Theory) my guitar is one place where I can always center myself.  I am also an aspiring master carpenter.  With my father being a contractor I grew up working with my hands and I still like to get them dirty as often as possible!

Last year I actually went to work part time with a local contractor/friend who needed help with some custom work.  It went from a two week job of just helping him out into a full blown remodel that had me working with him 3-5 days a week for 6 months!  It did cut into my photography time, but it was one of the most enjoyable summers of hard work I have ever had!  How often do you get to build a house that looks like a ship.

I am a reclusive extrovert who is very good at entertaining myself as well as others.  I am always playing with a new camera, an old guitar or (like now) figuring out a cool, custom design for extending the privacy fence in my back yard.  As long as I am creating something or rescuing an animal in need I am usually quite a happy camper.

I would go on about my love of cooking my obsession with old cars that aren't so classic, or my utter fascination with the early 1970's and how you can never have enough film grain, but I'll save that for another time.
