Eric Foley: Art of the Engagement Photo

I have developed a brand that brides and grooms alike desire and I attribute that to more than just my shooting style. I consider my greatest assets to be my ability to create relationships and lasting, emotional connections with my clients. I look at the engagement session as a blank canvas for our clients wedding. It is a opportunity for me to learn how to make my clients feel comfortable, and confident in front of the camera. The engagement session is also a great opportunity to push the limits of my clients (and myself) so I know what they are capable of photographically. The topics we will go over are:

  • Working with your clients to make them feel confident in front of the camera.
  • Techniques on how to get those natural ""non-posed"" images
  • The do's and don'ts of a e-shoot and realizing when your approach isn't working with your clients.
  • Natural posing
  • Everyday Lighting situations and how to combat them.
  • How shooting a engagement session will help the wedding day!

Attendees will learn techniques on how to create a relaxed atmosphere, emotionally connect and build trust with their clients. They will also learn how to push their creative envelope and use the engagement session to develop and fine-tune their style and brand. We will go over the do’s and don’ts of a engagement session and how to realize when what your doing isn’t working with your clients (getting a good read on your subjects). On the technical side, we will go over everyday lighting situations to include reflector, diffuser and off-camera flash use. We will use natural relaxed posing and I will also share my techniques on how to communicate while shooting to take your clients minds off of being photographed.

As we have all heard before in this ever-growing industry, everybody’s images are all looking the same. The one thing that can separate us and our brand is our personality. I believe the engagement session is a great opportunity to expand and develop your confident style. This workshop will be fun and hands on for all attendees.

I am a closet romantic, crazy Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Eaglers fan and I enjoy nothing more than the simple things in life. Starbucks, Twizzlers, The Grateful Dead and my Nikon.
