Surrounded by Awesome
I spend lots of time writing blog posts about my shoots. I don't, however, spend much time blogging about "other" things. So when I got to thinking about what I was going to write here on the Inspire Blog, I pretty much drew a blank. I mean, nothing. I could write about anything and I'm drawing a blank.
When I began my wedding photography business, I knew so very little about the industry. I was fortunate for the opportunity to work with one of the region’s -- dare I say country’s -- great wedding photographers. So outside of his having to review my crap work, I was largely saved from embarrassment as I was getting started.
I quickly realized that I had a lot to learn. I sought out other photographers who knew a lot more than I did, often hiring them to second shoot for me. Each year I made it a point to work with several new photographers, expanding my network and knowledge. I was sponge and soaked up everything I could. I built friendships and relationships that made my life and my business stronger. The worst wedding days were made enjoyable being among friends and such talented individuals. My business grew being supported by great people, people who taught me things, shared leads and listened to my venting when I need to.
I found, without intention, I was creating my own support network, my own community of photographers. A little virtual Inspire if you will. Folks I could lean on, who I could learn from, and who I had a hell of a good time with. So, when I started thinking about what to write about here, what really came to mind were those people, those awesome photographer friends who I have been lucky enough to surround me. It’s not always easy, but we always have fun.
